Local anecdote: Dragons represent power and authority in Miao culture. In February, the Miao hold a grand “dragon invitation” ceremony to pray for a prosperous year. On that day, people bring offerings and climb to the top of a mountain, beating drums all the way. Then a prayer is read, and offerings are scattered to draw the dragon into their village.
